The main road runs south east to north west on Shetland mainland. This is the route used by bus services to and from Lerwick, including an inter island service. Several stops along the route have what amounts to a park and ride. Vehicles driven by people from outlying settlements park in areas close to the bus [...]

We passed a bus shelter on Unst that appeared to contain an armchair and a carpet, an understatement. See pictures and website, www.unstbusshelter.shetland.co.uk Yes, there really is a website about a bus shelter!

Today we visited the isle of Yell, some good birds and sunshine.  Part of the reason to visit was the hope of seeing otters, we were not disappointed.  Having asked around we were told that the ferry terminal on Yell was a good place, bingo, three.  Two were playing, on land and in the water.  Our [...]

The ferry leaves from Aberdeen and is operated by Northlink ferries.  We boarded about 5- 30 for the 7- 00 sailing. We were shown to our cabin and got settled.  Later we had a meal of roast beef with the usual trimmings, good quality food. Having seen the size of the portions we decided not have [...]
