Today, Saturday, we did the usual, the market to buy our fruit and veg for the week.  At the market you get a picture of the social structure, or, at least, our take on it.  We are old enough to have memories from many years ago.  What we see here is how things were in the nineteen sixties, early seventies when the younger generation broke away from the local and national traditions. The style of dress is the most obvious.  This is not rose tinted glasses or any suggestion of backwardness, just a sense that the world moves on and it is sad to see the loss of some traditions, social cohesion and trading options disappearing. Picking the produce that fits your requirements from a number of stalls who’s traders value your custom is something special.
